“There has been a big difference for the good since I’ve come in for treatment.  I am now sleeping great, not getting headaches in the morning, able to chew most food without pain, not feeling drowsy during the day, my jaw no longer locks up, able to drastically reduce my depression drugs, and stopped taking anxiety drugs completely.  I feel like I am cured!”

Liz Y

“I initially saw Dr. Pick in 2010 for my TMJ issues.  It was extremely bad where I couldn’t do normal things like wear sunglasses, wear a hat, or even put my hair in a pony tail due to the pain and headaches.  It has now been 12 years, and my quality of life has improved tremendously since I saw him. I am still able to chew food, wear sunglasses and hats, and put my hair up with no issues.”

Laura Cook

“I am seeing huge improvement after only 4 visits.  I am sleeping better, and my pain has reduced by 60% since my first visit.”

Emily D

“I have had huge success during this treatment.  I am now have more normal  range of motion, where I can open my mouth comfortably, my jaw no longer pops, I have reduced my pain by at least 90%, and now taking no medication for my pain and anxiety.  Before this treatment, my condition used to debilitate me where I wasn’t functional day to day like I should have been.  I now have the confidence to pursue a dream job, and succeeded in getting it!”

Alyssa

“I have had some huge improvement since coming in. My temporal tendons don’t hurt today, I have a better head rotation overall, and my neck and shoulders aren’t nearly as bad compared to before I started the treatment.

I am also sleeping really well now. I used to have to take Ambient and/or Benadryl every night since my accident happened in 2018  just to get to sleep.  Now I’ve only taken it 2-3 times in the past 2 weeks, and able to go to sleep easily more often.

My overall quality of life has drastically improved due to such a large reduction in the daily pain I was experiencing”

Brooke B

“I’m sleeping well overnight now.  I am now using fewer drugs to control the pain, and chewing food is going great too”

What is TMJ Disorder?

TMJ disorder is a misalignment of your jaw joint. It can be caused by trauma, bruxism (teeth grinding and clenching), or genetics. When you have TMJ, you’ll experience painful symptoms in your jaw, face, head, and ears, as well as radiating symptoms like tingling in your fingers.

Some TMJ might resolve itself, but other times you’ll need to see a neuromuscular dentist to relieve your pain and realign your jaw. Call (515) 222-0505 or make an online appointment with Dr. Douglas Pick, Des Moines, Iowa’s top neuromuscular dentist, if your pain persists for more than a week.

Don’t Ignore Your TMJ Symptoms

It is tempting to try and ignore newfound symptoms and wait for them to go away. Sometimes, if your TMJ is due to a temporary situation (healing from jaw trauma), it can go away on its own. Other times, you’ll need intervention from a Des Moines neuromuscular dentist.

We applaud you for looking into TMJ treatment. We know how frustrating it is when you’ve tried several treatments and haven’t found relief. Your TMJ is treatable, so don’t ignore your symptoms. Common symptoms of TMJ include jaw and facial pain, ear symptoms, difficulty fully opening your jaw, tooth pain, clicking and popping when you open your jaw, and jaw pain when eating, talking, and laughing.

Treat Your TMJ and Achieve a Happy, Healthy Life

Your path to a TMJ symptom-free life hasn’t been easy, but don’t give up yet. At Iowa Sleep & TMJ, you can receive TMJ treatment that addresses the main cause of your TMJ, heals the problem, and prevents future relapses. In Des Moines, your TMJ treatment is custom, so everyone’s path to healing looks a little different. In a nutshell, we’ll find the proper resting position of your jaw and make a custom orthotic that holds your jaw in alignment. You can stop there, or if you want a permanent fix without wearing your orthotic, we can perform a series of dental procedures that’ll fix your teeth and/or jaw to hold it in the correct position.

Dental veneers, crowns, dental implants, dental bridges, and orthodontics are all on the table. It just depends on which treatments will cure your TMJ.
